Black Hereford History...The American Black Hereford Association was established as a non-profit corporation in 1994. The first Black Herefords to qualify for registration were recorded in 1997. In 2003, Black Herefords received international breed designation by the National Association of Animal Breeds. In 2005, the breed implemented its own EPDs. The genetic basis for the breed was designed by Hereford Hall of Fame breeder Frank Felton. The late Felton was an internationally acclaimed Hereford breeder and a pioneer in the use of genetics and performance testing. Felton bulls were trait leaders 28 times and half of the top 18 bulls in scrotal circumference were Felton bred. Over the years, six Felton bred bulls were the foundation bulls of the Black Hereford breed.more Why Black Hereford?By using a registered Black Hereford bull on your cow herd you can take advantage of all the great qualities of Hereford cattle including heterosis, feed efficiency, docility and carcass quality without the discounts that come with red hide. The Concept...To develop cattle with black hides using the predictability and performance of the best in Hereford genetics.
