Iron Lake Ranch Cattle...
The Iron Lake Ranch herd consists of both registered Black Herefords and cattle registered with the American Hereford Association. We use registered Herefords to enhance the genetic pool of our offspring and improve the genetics and EPD’s available in our Black Hereford cattle. Since the inception of our Black Hereford Ranch we have taken the approach that we must use the top genetics available. Starting with our herd sires we look for consistent producers such as our homozygous black herd sire, JN Balder 6432 (Travis) that has been one of the most solid performers of the Black Hereford breed. We have also added homozygous herd sires JN Balder 8615 and JN Balder 9487. Our bulls produce low birth weights and trouble free calving. In addition to the Black Hereford herd sires, we have added three Hereford Bulls that have been approved by the American Black Hereford Association to improve, not only the carcass quality and performance of our cattle, but as well, the choice of outcross genetics. These bulls include CRR Helton, the 2010 Grand Champion bull of the American Royal National Hereford Show, and CCC ILR Wallace the 2011 Reserve Summer Yearling Champion of the National Western and the American Royal. Also, we have added one of the top performing herd sires from Knoll Crest Farms. (Please visit our Herd Sire page for more information on these great bulls.)
Due to our significant herd reduction sale to Triple L Ranch, we are currently rebuilding our herd with embryos from donor cows that we have retained interest in. We have also retained the three yearling heifers that we believe are the best that we have ever produced. And in order to keep up with the latest improvements in both the Hereford and Angus breeds part of our herd rebuilding includes an F1 program that we are very excited about. This program includes Hereford heifers purchased from Coyote Ridge Ranch of Colorado (Durango, Ribeye and 713T daughters) and Langford Herefords of Oklahoma that will be bred to the top Angus AI sires including sons of carcass giant Mytty In Focus. The F1 program will also include Angus heifers purchased from Knoll Crest Farms bred to our Hereford herd sires. All of our cattle are genetically tested for breed improvement and to guarantee our customers animals that are free of all genetic defects of the Angus and Hereford breeds.
